*I received this book for review from the author, but this in no way affected my thoughts expressed in this review*I did not like Edna at first. Not one bit. She was rude, she was selfish, she made me want to literally shake her so hard her brain rewired itself. There's a keyword there: was. She was rude, she was selfish. Was. Edna's also a teenager. It sounded like a fun, easy and interesting read and the zero technology aspect interested me as I thought it was going to be more about the relationship and Edna developing. However having finished Edna in the Desert, I can say that I was shocked to find the main character (Edna) was only 13 and that this book is definitely more middle grade than YA.For me the overall concept was

YA Not recommendedI have two issues with this book. One is an odd voicing that I've not come across before. The book is from 13 year old Edna's perspective, told in third person. However, stray thoughts from other characters pop up when you least expect them. Only little snippets, a couple of sentences long, they don't add up to enough to make this a multi-perspective novel.Since Edna thinks of the adults in her family by first name, as opposed to Mom or Dad, these perspective changes caught me

I had to read it for school. It's really not my kind of book though... :/ However, I did enjoy parts of it. The prose was good and detailed, and quite funny. I found myself both relating to Edna and feeling very irritated with her. I didn't really like the plot though. As my 2-star rating implies, it was OK. Not good, not exactly bad, but... Meh.
